I am experiencing recurring headaches two weeks after a concussion – what should I do?
I had a concussion almost two weeks after cracking my head on a scaffold. At that time I had a bad headache and felt a bit out of it for a few days. Now I meet recurrent headaches. They are debilitating, as such, but I've never had a problem with headaches before, so I find it more difficult to deal with it. Should I be taking painkillers? And if I go to a doctor, or just relax and wait there?
You should see a neurologist. They are best to treat brain injuries and the management of headache. I have recurrent daily headaches five years out of my concussion, so if you wait it could be a long wait. With preventive management of headaches that occur in the first place is key to getting rid of them. There are some drugs out there that work for some people to reach the top. I'm unusual in that 96% of people who suffer concussions are free of symptoms at 6 months, Most of that group at month 1, and after that group, most improve within a week. So medical checkups you can ensure that it is doing everything possible to prevent long term problems.
